'Nihil' is a tri-part Suite of Drone/Minimalist/Dark-Ambient movements for Choir, Flute Ensemble, Sine wave, Percussion and Electronic elements.
The aim was to create an all-encompassing submergence into a transcendental and ethereal sound-world, characterized by wide 'panoramic' sounds, dissonance, consonance, harmony and stasis; reflecting the hyperborean, endless, and celestial atmospheres invoked by Neptune.
Inspired by the Minimalist/Ambient compositions of Brian Eno, Robert Rich, William Basinski and Jeremy Soule, as well as Dark-Ambient works by Burzum, Paysage D'Hiver, Svartsinn, Ulver and Urfaust.
For those of use whose attention span isn't what it was for ambient and who need something more narrative than noise, there is the sub-genre of atmospheric black metal that I'm inclined to call "monolithic". Paysage d'Hiver might be the archetypal example. But if you just want to be consumed by a relentless wall of beautiful air pressure, this is ideal. Luke
